Cry If You Want To

Men can cry! It’s a big shift during the last few decades. In 1972, Maine Senator Ed Muskie had to drop out of the race for president when it appeared he was crying after a newspaper published false stories about him and his wife. Now, it is considered a badge of honor when a man cries at an emotional moment.

Charles Dickens wrote, “Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth…” Tears can settle the dust of earthly things.

If you feel the need to cry, it is a need that must be fulfilled. Cry and we release pent-up energy in our body. Cry and we feel better. And while the tears are upon our cheeks, we are as fully alive as we are meant to be.
